Description

This object is an HII region located 18,000 light years away in the constellation of Monoceros at a declination of 0 degrees. It is as big as the full moon in our sky, at 0.5 degree.

The nebula is faint but has some nice “elephant trunk” dust pillars and dust lanes running through it. The open star cluster Dolidze 25, near the center of the nebula, is ionizing it. The nebula is about 150 light years in diameter.
